Blaby District Council issued the following press release today
NEWS RELEASE
Plans for new community submitted
Plans to build approximately 4,250 houses in Lubbesthorpe with schools, motorway bridges, shops and employment land have been submitted to Blaby District Council. The land proposed for development is off Beggars Lane and borders Leicester Forest East, Enderby and Braunstone Town.
The planning application must now be checked to make sure there is sufficient information for the Council to process it and this is expected to take between two and three weeks. Once this first stage is complete full details of the proposals will be made available and the Council will begin an extensive public consultation exercise, with letters sent to residents living nearby and notices placed in the local press. People will be able to view full details of the application, once it has been checked at www.blaby.gov.uk/lubbesthorpe.
Although planning applications are usually expected to be determined within 16 weeks this application will take longer because of its complexity and the need to make sure all relevant individuals and organisations are properly consulted.
It is expected the Council will make a decision on whether to approve or reject the application by the end of 2011.

Chairman of BDC Planning Committee stands down to fight Development
A councillor has stood down as chairman of a planning committee so he can campaign against a move to build 4,250 homes. Tony Dolby said he wanted to fight the plan for Lubbesthorpe, but was unable to do so while he remained chairman of Blaby District Council Planning Committee, because of legal restrictions.
Coun Dolby said that by resigning as chairman and member of the planning committee he was now able to represent his constituents, who he said were overwhelmingly against the development.
“Building thousands of homes on a greenfield site is simply unacceptable”, he told the Parish Council. "This will put enormous strain on the area in terms of inadequate roads and facilities. I wish to stand with my constituents in fighting the plans.
"The vast majority of people living in my area have told me they are against these plans, and I don't accept there is a need for so many houses to be built in this area."
