Air Quality Management Area
The Map below depicts the Air Quality Management Area (AQMA) for Leicester Forest East. The area highlighted in deep grey shows where the AQMA lies within the District of Blaby. The area highlighted in black indicates where the AQMA was extended onto Hinckley Road (A47). Four diffusers measuring Air Quality exist in Leicester Forest East, at Hinckley Road/M1 bridge; Packer Ave; St Andrews Church and The Cottage Ratby Lane. These four diffusers are analysed monthly and the results for Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2 ) are shown in the table below.
UK air quality standards for the protection of human health are set out in BDC Air Quality Action Plan,2004 and in Updating and Screening Assessment 2006. These quality standards were required to be achieved by 31 Dec 2005 at a level for NO2 of 40 µg/m3 (micrograms/cubic metre), annual mean. From the table below, clearly these levels are still being exceeded and are likely to be exacerbated by future traffic flow, emanating from the Lubbesthorpe New Development along the A47 and through Thorpe Astley.
